Cyprus Recognition and Participation in the International Neurosurgical and Spine Surgical Community
In a specialized Congress for the implementation of Cervical Arthroplasty in disorders of the Cervical spine which took place in USA in 2010, Dr. Neophytos Neophytou who participated in a global protocol with an International Team of renowned Neurosurgeons announced the results of his studies and his participation in the cervical arthroplasty protocol for 250 cases and highly successful 4 year follow up.
With the same International Team, he participated as an instructor at the World Spine Congress (World Spine V Workshop) educating young Neurosurgeons from around the world in minimally invasive surgical methods of the spine.
Dr. Neophytou and his team now perform the most difficult spinal surgeries in Cyprus including cases of spinal scoliosis and kyphosis with new surgical techniques.
The new surgical techniques (Minimal Invasive Surgery) with innovative and quality implants used by Dr. Neophytou and his team are:
· Brain Microsurgery (keyhole surgery) with neuronavigation:
Ability to approach any point of the brain with sophisticated and the latest technology equipment and instruments.
· Cranioplasty: surgery to correct cranial defects
Placement of grafts ,custom-made to the dimensions of the bone defect of the patient.
· Microsurgical Cervical Arthroplasty:
Replacement of the pathological intervertebral disc with an artificial disc of the latest technology which offers complete freedom of motion and adapts to the patient’s specific anatomy, addressing the special needs of the cervical discopathy and ensuring the recovery of normal mobility.
· Microsurgical Cervical spinal fusion:
Natural spinal fusion is achieved with a special implant.
· Microsurgery and Endoscopic discectomy and spinal fusion (ALIF, XLIF, PLIF, TLIF)
Minimally invasive spine surgery with anterior, lateral or posterior approach and the insertion of special implants between the vertebrae for stabilization, with the assistance of surgical microscope and neuromonitoring ,neuronavigation ,which only requires a very small skin incision to perform the surgery, significantly reducing recovery time.
Percutaneous Kyphoplasty
The percutaneous kyphoplasty technique does not require an incision, it minimizes postoperative pain, paraspinal muscle damage and recovery time in comparison to open surgery. It is applied with excellent results in osteoporotic fractures.
· Minimally Invasive spinal fusion in scoliosis of the Spine.
A minimal invasive spinal fusion technique is applied in which pedicle implants are implanted through small incisions (percutaneous). Less muscle trauma is achieved, significantly less intraoperative blood loss and less postoperative pain with a short hospital stay and faster recovery time.

Our Code of Conduct
Ensure that our standards of service to our patients are of the utmost professionally possible
Treat each case as if it was our own personal problem
Honor the obligations we undertake in each case
Independent of race, creed or walks of life ensure that our patients are treated equally
Conduct our business in a legal, ethical manner and respect the confidentiality requested by our patients.
Strive to continually improve our levels of service
We are a team with significant experience in medical devices in the field of Neurosurgery. Our close monitoring of the advancements in less invasive surgical techniques and implant developments over the years inspired our vision to create a specialized service in the field globally referred to as Medical Tourism exclusively for Neuro operations.
In our view the fundamental aspect of Medical Tourism should be the provision of excellence in Medical treatment which led us to our first and logical step, choosing the right surgeon to collaborate with. We were fortunate to add Dr Neophytos Neophytou as a member of our team, a dedicated Neurosurgeon, with over 20 years of experience in Germany & Austria. This background has given Dr Neophytou valuable knowledge and the ability to continually advance his education in all innovations in the field of Neurosurgery, experience which allows him to take full advantage of the advancements available in order to improve the outcome of his patients.
Our decision to focus solely on minimally invasive Neurosurgical operations derives from our desire to be in a position to competently meet the specific needs of one of the most challenging fields of surgery while addressing the criteria which motivate each individual to seek surgery abroad.
Our concept is that a patient in need of surgery and who seeks it abroad, should have the ability if they wish, to participate in choosing where they will stay and what they will do in the time they are recuperating, armed with the knowledge that the services they will need have been scrutinized and that there is a selection suited to their religious beliefs and financial capacities for them to choose from. This will give them the serenity needed to face their personal problem in the best possible way.
We strongly believe that all patients irrespective of race or creed should have access to the most advanced neurosurgical methods and CE marked implants available.

Rehabilitation
Successful surgery without proper rehabilitation can often lead to poor results.
Conditions which require neurosurgical treatment have not responded to conservative therapies and depending on the disorder have often caused muscle weakness, cognitive and speech disorders.
The time required for rehabilitation varies from patient to patient and depends on the nature of the neurological disorder and the general health of the patient. Types of rehabilitation which may be required depending on the type of disorder include:
A well- structured physiotherapy program following liaison with the attending neurosurgeon, who is aware of all the specific requirements of the patient plays an important part in helping the patient to regain normal mobility after surgery and to strengthen the muscles.

well as for those accompanying them. Post treatment recuperation is one
of the great advantages for all patients being treated in Cyprus. The
combination of leisure and treatment is ideal in Cyprus. Sight-seeing,
shopping and savoring the Cyprus cuisine, while enjoying the island’s
Mediterranean climate, geography and history, makes a stay in Cyprus an
attractive compliment to any medical treatment.

Cervical Arthroplasty
Facilities:
The past few years have seen Cyprus gain prominence for its excellent healthcare. The island’s hospital’s and clinics accommodate advanced medical facilities featuring the latest high-tech equipment such as Open MRI , and the required staff to operate them.
The high nursing standards of Cyprus are also recognized worldwide, as the majority are graduates of four year university courses.
Our team performs surgeries in several accredited private clinics in all major cities of the island, all of which are fully equipped to cater for demanding neurosurgical procedures.
Replacement of intervertebral discs with artificial discs is called discoplasty and is designed to maintain mobility of the cervical spine and to avoid shifting of loads to adjacent discs. Discoplasty is not a technique that can be applied to all patients who undergo cervical microsurgical discectomy. Discoplasty can be applied in cases where the degenerative lesions of the level are not especially severe and there is no mechanical instability (spondylolisthesis) and the neurosurgeon wants to maintain the motion at this level.
In these cases, after discectomy and decompression, instead of implanting a fixed plate and cage to maintain the intervertebral disc space, an artificial disc is implanted which maintains both the intervertebral space and mobility. This modern method requires special training and familiarization with the necessary surgical instruments, but has the advantage that the maintenance of movement lessens the loads on adjacent discs in the long-term, which loads in the case of cage fixation are significantly increased because the center of movement is transferred to the adjacent disc. Depending on the ability of the surgeon discoplasty can be applied even in more complex cases in selected patients. It is then combined with the placement of fixed cages in adjacent intervals, to achieve greater decompression and restoration of the anatomy of the cervical spine.
With the development of implants a permanent solution has been provided for the unwanted creation of osteophytes which up until now were a common finding in postoperative follow-up of cases treated with spinal fusion performed with fixed cages and plate.
This method allows the elimination of the danger of pressure being placed on the neural structures of the surgically treated level by the formation of osteophytes. Therefore the artificial disc gives a final and permanent solution without presenting this risk.
