Cyprus Recognition and Participation in the International Neurosurgical and Spine Surgical Community

In a specialized Congress for the implementation of Cervical Arthroplasty in disorders of the Cervical spine which took place in USA in 2010, Dr. Neophytos Neophytou who participated in a global protocol with an International Team of renowned Neurosurgeons announced the results of his studies and his participation in the cervical arthroplasty protocol for 250 cases and highly successful 4 year follow up.

With the same International Team, he participated as an instructor at the World Spine Congress (World Spine V Workshop) educating young Neurosurgeons from around the world in minimally invasive surgical methods of the spine.

Dr. Neophytou and his team now perform the most difficult spinal surgeries in Cyprus including cases of spinal scoliosis and kyphosis with new surgical techniques.

The new surgical techniques (Minimal Invasive Surgery) with innovative and quality implants used by Dr. Neophytou and his team are:

·         Brain Microsurgery (keyhole surgery) with neuronavigation:
Ability to approach any point of the brain with sophisticated and  the latest technology equipment and instruments.

·         Cranioplasty: surgery to correct cranial defects
Placement of grafts ,custom-made to the  dimensions of the bone defect of the patient.

·         Microsurgical Cervical Arthroplasty:
Replacement of the pathological  intervertebral disc with an artificial disc of the latest technology which offers complete freedom of motion  and adapts to the patient’s specific anatomy, addressing  the special needs of the cervical discopathy and ensuring the recovery of normal mobility.

·          Microsurgical Cervical spinal fusion:
Natural spinal fusion is achieved with a special implant.

·          Microsurgery and Endoscopic discectomy and spinal fusion (ALIF, XLIF, PLIF, TLIF)
Minimally invasive spine surgery with anterior, lateral or posterior approach and the insertion  of special  implants between the vertebrae for stabilization, with the assistance of surgical microscope and neuromonitoring ,neuronavigation ,which only requires a very small skin incision to perform the surgery, significantly reducing recovery time.

    Percutaneous Kyphoplasty
The percutaneous kyphoplasty technique does not require an incision, it minimizes postoperative pain, paraspinal muscle damage and recovery time in comparison to open surgery. It is applied with excellent results in osteoporotic fractures.

·         Minimally Invasive spinal fusion in scoliosis of the Spine.
A minimal invasive spinal fusion technique is applied in which pedicle implants are implanted through small incisions (percutaneous).  Less muscle trauma is achieved, significantly less intraoperative blood loss and less postoperative pain with a short hospital stay and faster recovery time.
